Canada–Russia relations

Canada–Russia relations ((ロシア語:Российско-канадские отношения)) is the bilateral relationship between Canada and the Russian Federation, the world's two largest countries.
Canada and Russia enjoy a diverse and productive relationship as vast resource-rich northern countries. Canada and Russia benefit from extensive cooperation on trade and investment, energy, democratic development and governance, security and counter-terrorism, northern issues, and cultural and academic exchanges.
According to a 2014 BBC World Service poll, 26% of Canadians view Russia's influence positively, with 62% expressing a negative view. 〔(2014 World Service Poll ) ''BBC''〕
Relations between Canada and Russia have considerably deteriorated as a result of the 2014 Crimean Crisis. Canada has strongly condemned Russia's actions which led Canada to recall its ambassador from Russia.
==Background==
(詳細はSoviet Union and Canada did not establish diplomatic relations following the Russian Revolution or the Union Treaty because Canada's foreign policy was controlled by Britain at the time. Canadian governments were anyway hostile to the new communist regime, even after Canada gained the ability to carry on its own foreign affairs in 1931. Relations between the two countries were finally established on June 12, 1942 on the context of the Second World War, after the German invasion of the Soviet Union, which found Canada and the Soviet Union on the same side. During the Cold War Canada was part of Western bloc, hostile to the Soviet-led Eastern bloc, though Canadian policy was never as militantly anti-Soviet as that of the US or UK. However, in 1991 Canada was the first major Western country to recognize the independence of the Baltic states and Ukraine, which helped to cement their international legitimacy and formalize the end of the Soviet Union. Canada and Russia established relations in 1992.
